Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to episode 12 of Rose's Astro Academy, where we demystify the system of astrology piece by piece For our transit talk. This week we're taking a look at Venus's entrance into Scorpio, which happened around 1130 pm EDT on September 22nd. We'll take a look at how Venus's expression in Scorpio is different from her expression in Libra, where she just was. We'll go into the nature of Venus in Scorpio generally, exploring it through the lens of a Mars Venus dynamic, and we'll look at how this placement can show up for individuals born with Venus in Scorpio. We'll also discuss how Venus's host, mars, being in the sign of Cancer, can change this expression. Venus moves through Scorpio once a year, but her journey this year is particularly impactful due to the upcoming solar eclipse in Libra on October 2nd. Venus will be hosting this eclipse because it's happening in her home sign, which makes understanding her dynamic in Scorpio important for grasping the nature of this eclipse. We will be diving into this eclipse in detail during our transit talk next Monday, so stay tuned for that as well. So let's begin by thinking about how Venus would typically express in Libra, so we can more fully understand how her expression changes when she moves into Scorpio. When Venus is in Libra, she finds it easy to express her natural tendencies for harmony and cooperation. Her focus tends to be on promoting fairness and balance in relationships and maintaining peace and connection in a lighthearted way. So we've been privy to this expression in the Venus ruled areas of our lives since around about August 30th. So those would be things such as love, friendships, enjoyment and art, friendships, enjoyment and art. Right before Venus moved into Scorpio yesterday, she also had a square to Pluto. This square went exact yesterday around 5 30 pm, but the energy of this transit would have been building for the last few days. So perhaps we may have experienced things such as lover's quarrels, power struggles, or perhaps we've had deep emotional revelations that have forced us to confront issues in our partnerships or within ourselves. Maybe we've had deep emotional tension coming up for us internally. Internally, I see the square with Pluto here as disturbing the calm, peaceful waters that Venus has been in for the duration of Libra, really stirring some things up and bringing issues to the surface that Venus is now going to be working through while she's in Scorpio.

Speaker 1:

The shift from Libra to Scorpio is a really big change for Venus every year, because Venus is moving from one of her home signs, where she feels empowered, to a place where she's said to be in her detriment. Now, what ancient astrologers meant when they said that a planet is in their detriment is that the archetypal qualities of the planet and the place are at odds with one another. Where Venus represents harmony, cooperation, peace, getting along, relationships and accord, mars represents conflict, hostility, strife and aggression. So all of these things that Venus is quite uncomfortable with and that are quite opposite to her nature. It's a jarring experience for Venus to move from a place where she feels empowered to a place where she feels at odds with her environment. It's like Venus is used to being at this beautiful, aesthetic yoga studio and now she's found herself in an underground cage fighting ring. That's kind of how I see the shift from Libra to Scorpio. It's like when you find yourself in someone's house who's very different in nature from you and it feels very uncomfortable. It's the same thing here for Venus. So that's one thing that we can take note of. Another thing is that Venus is going to keep trying to do Venus things, but she's going to now be doing them with a Mars flare. So what does that look like? How this looks specifically for you will depend on the whole sign house that Scorpio falls into in your chart, but some general things that we could see showing up more in the collective as Venus moves through Scorpio would be maybe we're seeing some surfacing of jealousy, passive aggression, manipulation and betrayal. It could be, too, that Venus topics are just getting really hit right now, so that would be topics around beauty, accord, friendship, relationships, things like that.

Speaker 1:

Scorpio can be a sign of internal processing. It's watery, which tends to keep things in. But Scorpio also represents that which is deep, dark and intense, like the realm of the unconscious. So Venus in Scorpio can often be a time of difficulty emotionally, and maybe these Mars elements of strife are coming out more in our relationships. So when Venus is being hosted by Mars, as she is in Scorpio, she's still doing her best to try to do Venus type things like keeping a cord in relationships, but she's now putting a Mars flavored spin on them, so she's going about them in a Mars type way. For example, passive aggression can be a big one here. With Scorpio being the fixed feminine sign of Mars, there's a lot to do with defensiveness and protecting Venus, and Scorpio might lash out with jealousy or manipulation tactics in an effort to try to protect, so we can watch for those themes arising as well. Also, when we have Venus and Mars getting together archetypally which we have here we can get a powerful push-pull dynamic with love and desire. Venus and Mars were seen as the secret or taboo lovers in ancient astrology, and their combination represents powerful sexual chemistry, so that can be coming up as well.

Speaker 1:

Scorpio is also known for its deep and penetrating gaze. It has a very strong BS detector and can cut through the surface layers of things to see the truth of a situation or a person. Venus in Scorpio takes that penetrating eye and turns it to one's relationships, and with Scorpio there's often a feeling that you need to protect and defend your relationships, which can lead to heightened anxiety and jealousy. Venus in Scorpio expresses love with intensity, seeking depth and emotional connection that goes beyond the superficial. This is a big change from Venus in Libra, where she's a lot more content with skimming the surface and having light-hearted fun. When Venus is in Scorpio, the ability for vulnerability and transformation in our relationships can really get dialed up, but this is often through a difficult process. Venus in Scorpio isn't concerned with connections so much as she is concerned with union. She desires, a deep sense of merging.

Speaker 1:

Our relationships can take on a transformative and healing bend, but also be somewhat tumultuous at these times. To be drawn to dark aesthetics, loving to dress edgy or perhaps enjoying gothic motifs or other similar types of styles of dress, these are our Halloween loving girls. You know who you are In love. These people are drawn to a level of depth and intensity in the relationships. They want connections that are raw and authentic. As artists, these people tend to explore themes of power, transformation, the dark and the taboo. In their art. They see beauty in what others may find dark and unconventional. They are often drawn to the occult, esoteric and shadowy, hidden, murky realms of life. They can express love through intense loyalty, which can sometimes go overboard into possessiveness and jealousy.

Speaker 1:

As we've touched on a couple of times, when Venus is in Scorpio, it tends to raise issues around control dynamics, specifically in the realm of relationships. There can be more emotional intensity in ourselves and others and it may feel like Venus ruled things are going through a tougher time. So topics around women, pleasure, sexuality, beauty, relationships and art there can be a process of death and rebirth in these topics as well. Unresolved emotional baggage can come to the surface and themes of trust, control and vulnerability are heightened. There's an energy of plunging into the unresolved, shadowy, murky aspects of our hearts. Finally, we can add in the layer of where Venus' host, mars, is currently at in the sky and how that might put a different spin on Venus's typical expression in Scorpio. So Mars is currently in the sign of Cancer and what's interesting is that Cancer, like Scorpio, is also a water sign and Mars is actually preparing to tryine Saturn in Pisces, another water sign. So essentially, we're having a watery trifecta this week happening in the sky. So we could say that the watery elements of Venus's expression in Scorpio will be very heightened due to this.

Speaker 1:

In ancient astrology, water signs were said to be mute, meaning not doing so well communicating things out loud. So what comes to mind for me here is that there could be a lot of emotional intensity going on beneath the surface, but we can find that we're having a hard time communicating that. So if we keep that in mind, we can intentionally practice communicating the difficulty we're feeling emotionally, rather than keeping it inside, where it's bound to just come out at some point, likely in a more explosive manner. Water signs are also said to be feminine or yin, so we're getting a big activation of that yin energy this week. Yin energy is much more process-oriented. It's about slowing the pace and taking time for introspection. When we're in yin spaces, our energy draws inwards rather than extending outwards, so much so the dominance of that yin energy is something to keep in mind too, especially this week as mars prepares to make that trine to saturn, which I believe goes exact at the end of this week, but we're going to be feeling that building throughout the week.

Speaker 1:

So there's a lot more we could say about mars and cancer here. I did a whole talk on mars and cancer a couple of weeks ago, so if you haven't listened to that one already, I recommend you go and check it out, because Mars is going to be in Cancer for six of the next eight months. So that energy is very important overall. But Mars and Cancer tends to express its aggressive nature. Remember, mars rules aggression. He tends to express the side in covert ways when he's in the sign of cancer, and this is something that we can see with Venus in Scorpio as well. So I would say that the potential for covert manipulations, sneak attacks, not being particularly honest or truthful can really get dialed up, as well as passive, aggressive behavior, as I've touched on. So just be mindful of those things. Try not to let yourself get caught up in them and recognize when they're occurring in others. So that's a bit on how I see Venus's stay in Scorpio unfolding. For the next few weeks it's a bit more of a challenging time for Venus and Venus ruled topics in the collective. Venus moves into Sagittarius on October 18th, which I am definitely looking forward to, much more than Venus and Scorpio.
